Theresa May on Monday promised business leaders to maintain the “lowest corporate tax rate in the G20”, paving the way for further reductions if Donald Trump https://www.donaldjtrump.coma promise to cut the US rate to 15 per cent.
The suggestion was welcomed by George Osborne, the former chancellor who had floated the idea of a similar cut in the aftermath of the Brexit vote. In a tweet, he said: “Good to see briefing that corporation tax should be cut again. We got it from 28 per cent to 17 per cent. Next step let’s go to 15 per cent and show [the] UK [is] open to business.”
